In order to decide which standards are relevant to a particular clause of the Building Code, it is necessary to look at both the expected performance(s) of the product or system and the documentation associated with the particular Building Code clause. For each clause there is at least one compliance document, published by the Department of Building and Housing, that gives an explanation of what is
a) a means of verifying compliance , and or,
b) guidance as to how compliance may be achieved.
In such documents Standards are often referenced.
Where no Standards are referenced, the advice of an expert in the field of the particular clause needs to be sought.
BEAL staff has expertise covering many fields. Alternatively BEAL is able to seek expert advice from outside its staff.
